While Internet providers are stepping up fibre deployment Internet, some cities have the best connection and are at the top of the league in terms of download speed. Here's our full comparison.

The quality of a connection is measured by various parameters:

1. Download speed (in Mbit/s) : This is essential because it determines how fast you can download files or films. Depending on the download speed, you can have better quality video calls (on Messenger, Whatsapp or FaceTime) and better quality films on Netflix (in 4K Ultra HD, for example).
2. Sending speed Speed: Allows you to send files faster. The faster you send files, the smoother your video game or video call experience will be.
3. Latency (in ms): This determines the speed of the network. The lower it is, the more stable and responsive your connection will be. So it's an important parameter to take into account.

Finally, all the values reported in the ranking are a median: this is the value halfway between the lowest and the highest measurement.

Ranking of Luxembourg cities with the best connections

Our ranking covers five main towns, some of the most populous and densely populated. Some are located near the border with France (Differdange, Dudelange, Esch-sur-Alzette), others in the north (Ettelbruck) and, of course, the capital of the Grand Duchy. This ranking is based on data from the SpeedTest website, a benchmark in flow measurement.

So, contrary to what you might think, the capital is not the best in the Grand Duchy. At the time of writing, the connection is much faster and more stable on the border with France, particularly in Differdange, Dudelange and Esch-sur-Alzette.

Ettelbruck even outperforms the capital in terms of download speed, upload speed and latency, although the median values are very close.

This may seem surprising when you consider map of 4G and 5G coverageLuxembourg City is leading the way in the roll-out of 5G. However, in the capital, many more people are using the network at the same time, which can cause slowdowns at peak times.

Finally, it's important to note that these rankings are based on measurements taken by a third-party site, and are median figures. Your Internet speed will certainly be different.

Our comparison is based on a study of Speed Testthe world's leading Internet performance measurement company. Speed Test is based on thousands of measurements taken in the Grand Duchy, then calculates medians to compare connection quality in different cities.
