What to do in case of a claim?

In Luxembourg, declaring a claim is governed by the Law of 27 July 1997 on the insurance contract (Article 26): declare the claim as soon as possible and within the deadline set by your policy. The law imposes no single deadline — your policy specifies it.

1. Secure and limit the damage — take reasonable measures to limit the consequences (salvage costs are borne by the insurer). For theft, file a police report.
2. Declare quickly — via the MyAXA area (24/7) or on +352 44 24 24 1; for an emergency, car/home on +352 45 30 55 or international health on +352 44 24 24 48 48.
3. Track the settlement — an expert assesses if needed, then AXA makes a compensation proposal.

Good to know: any action arising from the insurance contract is time-barred after 3 years (5 years for liability). For a dispute, first write to AXA’s complaints department ([email protected]); without a satisfactory reply within 90 days, you can contact, free of charge, the Commissariat aux Assurances (CAA) or the Insurance Ombudsman (ACA/ULC).

The history of AXA Luxembourg

Contrary to popular belief, AXA is one of the country’s oldest insurers. Its origins go back to 1853, with the registration of « La Paternelle »‘s statutes in Luxembourg, followed in 1880 by an « Union » life-insurance agency and in 1922 by the « La Liégeoise » branch. These companies were consolidated several decades later under the AXA brand in 1999.

Driven by its international group, AXA Luxembourg then went through successive transformations: integration of Interlux Assurance Maladie in 2012 (strengthening health expertise), launch of the MyAXA digital platform in 2015, then rollout of teleconsultation and digital services in 2020. AXA Luxembourg remains a subsidiary of the AXA group and continues to develop tailored solutions for the Luxembourg market.
