Overview and positioning of Foyer
Foyer is Luxembourg’s historic insurance leader. An unlisted family group since 2014, it combines very strong local roots (a dense agent network, service in 5 languages) with an international dimension (expat health, wealth management), making it an « all-in-one » insurer rather than a specialist.
Foyer stands out with several strengths:
- ✓ The resident-market leader — around 40% of the non-life insurance market in Luxembourg, and nearly 200 agencies across the country.
- ✓ A complete range — car, home, health, life, pension savings, mortgage insurance, plus wealth management (CapitalatWork) and mortgage brokerage (Credihome).
- ✓ A solid family group — unlisted since 2014, with recognised financial strength (ESR « Socially Responsible Company » label since 2021).
- ✓ Service in 5 languages — Luxembourgish, French, German, English, Portuguese — and a MyFoyer app to manage contracts and file claims.
The point to watch
Foyer is positioned mid-to-upper market: premiums reflect a premium positioning and strong territorial coverage. For health and mortgage insurance, a detailed medical questionnaire and waiting periods may apply. Depending on your profile, a competing company may be more advantageous — that’s what our home, car and health comparators let you check.

What to do in case of a claim?
In Luxembourg, declaring a claim is governed by the Law of 27 July 1997 on the insurance contract: you must declare the claim as soon as possible and, in any event, within the deadline set by your policy. The law sets no single deadline — your policy specifies it (often very short for theft).
1. Secure and limit the damage — the law requires you to take reasonable measures to limit the consequences (salvage costs are borne by the insurer). For theft, file a police report.
2. Declare quickly — via the MyFoyer app, on +352 437 437, through your agent, or on +352 437 43 123 for a 24/7 emergency.
3. Track the settlement — an expert assesses if needed, then Foyer makes a compensation proposal, tracked via your MyFoyer area.
Good to know: any action arising from the insurance contract is time-barred after 3 years (5 years for liability). For an unresolved dispute, first write to Foyer’s complaints department; without a satisfactory reply within 90 days, you can contact, free of charge, the Commissariat aux Assurances (CAA) or the Insurance Ombudsman (ACA/ULC).
The history of Foyer in Luxembourg
Foyer was born on 28 October 1922 with the creation of « Le Foyer, Compagnie luxembourgeoise d’Assurances S.A. » by Léon Laval, Max Lambert, Joseph Bach and Max Ménager. The company supported the country’s development throughout the 20th century and harmonised its brands under the name « Foyer » in 2005, before moving its head office to Leudelange in 2006.
In 2014, Foyer became an unlisted family company again and created Foyer Global Health (international health for expats). The group celebrated its centenary in 2022 and that same year acquired Nexfin (mortgage brokerage), rebranded Credihome. In 2023, it acquired Globality S.A. to strengthen its international health business. Today, Foyer relies on five companies and three business lines (insurance, pensions, wealth management) across around ten European countries.
